During the year 1928 in La Clayette, France, the company Potain was born. Ever since then, Potain has been the global leader in tower crane production. They are responsible for more than 100,000 cranes installed and sold all-around the world. Currently, the company makes over 60 models from various production facilities in China, France, Portugal, Germany and Italy. The business represents numerous different product ranges designed for a variety of applications. These machinery are sold through a global Manitowoc dealer network.



The Potain family makes 3 different tower crane families. The self-erecting cranes are the smallest kinds in the Potain range. These cranes vary from 1 ton to 7.98 ton capacity. The next size up is the top-slewing cranes which are bigger and higher. These cranes range from 7.98 to 64 tons. Furthermore, these are the biggest special application cranes that are custom-designed. These models offer a reach capacity of one hundred sixty tons.



Some of the main innovations with the company include the LLC series of hoists, the Dialog control system and the Vision Cab. The company's growing reputation has expanded their appeal with different models. Potain cranes are usually found on conventional construction sites, power stations, bridge building projects, shipbuilding yards and ship-building projects.



Two of Manitowac's biggest facilities are based within the United States. Their manufacturing facility is based in the state of Wisconsin. In this state, both the tower crane parts and crawler cranes are constructed in the state of Pennsylvania in the Shady Grove plant. Here mobile cranes and boom trucks are built. Regional offices are situated in Mexico and in Brazil. As well, the extensive dealer network found all over Canada and the United States provides coverage and support unrivalled by any other crane manufacturer.
