A kind of machine in the material handling business which can be utilized to lift and move loads from one place to another is called a forklift. Each component of a forklift has a specific function. Different parts could be used to move the load either horizontally or vertically.
Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the parts which lower and lift the load. There are different types of masts used for raising loads to different heights: triplex, quad, simplex and duplex.
Power Supply
There are four various ways you could power a forklift: electric, gas, diesel and propane. The battery is located within the cab under the seat. The propane tank is on the rear of the truck. The fuel tank on diesel and gas forklifts is under the back of the truck.
Cab
Situated in the middle of the truck is the forklift cab. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the informational gauges and controls. The steering wheel, gas pedal, lifting controls, tilting controls and brake are all situated inside the cab.
Frame
The frame of the truck carries all the largest parts of the forklift, like the counterweights, that are located at the back so as to stop the truck from tipping when loaded. The frame includes the overhead guard which protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the driveshaft, axles and wheels.
